EMCR SDM SIG

Description

The Early and Middle Career Researchers (EMCR) SDM SIG is targeting both early and middle-career researchers with interest in shared decision-making. It aims to bridge the gap between the different stages of career progression, to learn about the wider scope of shared decision-making work happening all around the world, and how this relates to teaching and policy. Additionally, it aims to foster collaborations and share opportunities (when available) for early and middle-career researchers.

Affiliation: Faculty at the Health Decision Sciences Center at Massachusetts General Hospital and Instructor at Harvard Medical School in Boston, MA, USA.

SDM Projects:

  • My work focuses on the experience and measurement of shared decision making and the formation and measurement of patient and caregiver preferences.

Simone Kienlin (Norway)

Affiliation: Special advisor for Shared decision making at the South-Eastern Norway Regional Health Authority, Department of Medicine and Healthcare and Ph.D. Candidate at the E-Health, Integrative care and Innovation Center, University Hospital of North Norway. 

SDM Projects: 

  • Kienlin is leading a project at The South-Eastern Norway Regional Health Authority to increase the uptake of SDM guided by a multi-faced implementation strategy. A part of this project is the development and implementation of the modularised meta-curriculum for training healthcare professionals in SDM “Ready for SDM”.

  • Currently focusing on the communication of prognosis and natural history of illnesses to enhance the utility of the “no active treatment” option in patient decision aids.  Additionally, I’m working on an initiative to explore and improve SDM in Arabic-speaking countries and communities and improve the delivery of healthcare services in LMICs.
